Shanghai Sijing Project
Address: Sijing Town, Songjiang District, Shanghai Progress: Under construction
The project is located in the thousand-year-old town of Sijing, where it is said “Hundred-Year Shanghai, Thousand-Year Sijing”. The project will span to Henggang Road in the east, to the Waipojing River in the west, to Xiangyan Road in the south and to the planned road in the north. Its total built up area is about 106,000 square meters.
Gree Real Estate and Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners have joined forces once again to build the Shanghai Sijing Project into a high-quality residential area that can bring about the cohesion of community consciousness as well as being active and dynamic, providing the residents with a completely new and unique urban activity space through small block designs.

Planning
Block Layout
The original Sijing plot is divided into blocks with different sizes by the roads of the residential estate and the public green space.
The design team used the original block distributions to partition the residential groups, dividing the community into a number of residential groups with appropriate sizes, forming reasonable walking space. The landscape and residential groups in different regions form the combination concept of a traditional sense of “streets” and “districts”, thus completing the definition of public space and private space.

Filling Every Available Space with Pocket Courtyards
The “Pocket Courtyard” is a major feature of the Sijing Project. The landscape gardens within the boundaries formed by the towers and podiums are compact and flexible, allowing the green ecology to enter the daily life of people by utilizing every single available space. At the same time, these are interwoven with the public green space of the community and becomes an extension of the community space.
According to the planning, the project will have 12 “pocket courtyards”, including 2 educational gardens, 4 amusement centers and 6 quiet gardens.

Atmosphere
Cohesion of Community Consciousness
Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners consider that a successful city is a product of the close communication between people and believe that the openness and transparency in all aspects of society is very helpful in reconciling the distance between the various classes. In this regard, unlike the vast majority of other residential development projects in China, an open block design is adopted for the Qiantan Project and the Sijing Project of Gree Real Estate. An open community like this will make the city more dynamic and socially harmonious.

Living Room of the Residential Estate
A truly attractive community needs a cordial and harmonious living environment. To this end, the project will include neighborhood gardens within the residential groups to create green landscapes with each having its own characteristics, supplemented with leisure spaces, to create a vibrant and dynamic public space similar to the “living room of residential estate".

Community Symbols
The project has setup two visual focal points -- the residential estate’s entrance to the commercial buildings and the entrance to the central clubhouse. Making a strong impression through two dramatic and symbolic sculptural buildings, being the symbol of the residential estate, further bring about cohesion of community consciousness.

Sustainable
Healthy and Energy Saving
In the “healthy” environment aspect, the residential estate created a series of green landscape activity space with different characteristics by using plants to create landscape, such as a community central park, a central green plaza, green leisure corridors, pocket gardens, etc. In addition, the buildings are arranged at a 45-degree angle, hoping to maximize the sunlit surfaces to create more comfortable residential units.
In terms of energy conservation and environmental protection, the project will minimize the impact of the buildings on the environment by various methods, such as using paving materials with high-permeability, etc.
